A Fall Where Leaves Don't Fall.

Father and daughter. He is her giant unicorn, always game for goofiness, my husband and our youngest.
Hi Friend!
Our youngest daughter, who we adopted on July 1, was able to share a special moment this month when her birth brother, Hunter, was officially adopted from foster care on October 22. I was blessed to join the adoption hearing over Zoom, and it was such a beautiful day that had been a long time in the making. After school, the girls called Hunter to celebrate, and it was such a sweet reminder of the bond they share.
When we moved at the end of June, one of the things that gave me pause was knowing we wouldn’t be able to visit with Hunter as often. That is just one of the many things we miss about Illinois. Don’t get me wrong, we truly felt called to move here, and as things unfold, we are starting to see glimpses of God’s plan. Just glimpses, but enough to know He’s working.
Our second grader’s very first friend here in South Carolina happens to be adopted too. Not from foster care, but still, I can see God’s hand in that friendship. He has a beautiful way of placing people in our lives right when we need them, and I know these two sweet souls will be connected in a special way.
Fall here isn’t quite the same as it is in the Midwest. The leaves haven’t changed much and don’t fall either, but pumpkins and fall decorations fill the porches. It has been an interesting season of change in more ways than one.

Family fun day.
I would really love to hear how you are doing. Are you just starting your foster care or adoption journey? Have you been walking this path for a while? What are your biggest struggles and your greatest victories? Sometimes it helps just to talk things out, and I am here if you need that, even if it is just through email. ❤️
Peace,
Tracey

Hard Is Not The Same Thing As Bad - The Perspective Shift That Could Completely Change The Way You Mother
By Abbie Halberstadt
Reading Hard Is Not The Same Thing As Bad: The Perspective Shift That Could Completely Change The Way You Mother by Abbie Halberstadt was a deeply moving experience for me. Abbie, a homeschooling mother of ten, shares her personal journey and insights into the challenges and joys of motherhood.
One story in particular about a foster mom made me cry—it captured the raw emotions, sacrifices, and deep love that come with fostering. It reminded me that even in the hardest moments, God is at work, shaping hearts and bringing purpose to every struggle.
What I also appreciated was hearing a bit from Abbie’s husband’s perspective. It was unique and refreshing to see how he views the journey of parenting and supports her, offering insights that often get overlooked. It added another layer of understanding and reminded me how important it is for partners to walk this path together, especially in the challenging and rewarding moments of fostering.
Abbie’s writing is both humorous and encouraging, yet deeply grounded in biblical truths. She challenges the cultural narrative that praises the exhausted, sarcastic version of motherhood and instead calls moms to embrace the high calling God has given them.
Each chapter offers practical action steps and reflective questions, inviting readers to rely on God’s wisdom and guidance in their own parenting journey. This book is a must-read for any mom seeking peace, purpose, and supernatural growth in the trenches of motherhood, especially those of us walking the foster care path.
